I learned about Graydon Face Glow Tinted Primer on YouTube from the professional vegan makeup artist, Danielle Schleese. She used it as a primer AND sunblock while explaining that it’s also nourishing for your skin. She made it look and sound so good.
A clean 3-in-1 product that’s skincare that doubles as sunblock that triples as makeup? Um, yes, please!
After a quick internet search, I found Graydon Skincare. Graydon is a plant powered skincare line that’s made and sold primarily in Canada but ships to the U.S, no problem. The line is named after the woman, Graydon, who founded it.
Graydon (the woman) is basically an all-around natural lifestyle guru, from culinary arts to yoga to skincare and more. She believes in feeding your body – both inside and out – with real food. After playing around with vegetables and fruits to create nourishing skincare (broccoli and berry seeds oil are common ingredients), Graydon got scientists involved. The result is her nourishing, natural, mostly organic skincare line. (Ok, it may have been a little more than “playing around”….)
As you would expect, all products are free of mineral oils, chemicals, parabens, sulfates, artificial dyes and synthetic aromas. They are also gluten free, almost all vegan*, and organic whenever possible.
*Graydon Tinted Primer is vegan.
Graydon describes what she does as follows:
“…The focus of my work is to leverage the transformative power of pure plant-based ingredients to create products that are as effective and luxurious as any mainstream luxury brand.”https://graydonskincare.com/pages/about-graydon
Let’s delve into Graydon’s Face Glow Tinted Primer and find out if she delivers.
Face Glow Tinted Primer
For starters, I love this product, unequivocally. I happily reach for it every day, which is not true for most skincare or makeup items; Other products have value, so I use them, but this is one product that I enjoy using. It’s only February, but Face Glow is most certainly a favorite of 2019.
Face Glow has so many benefits, in addition to providing some color and a base for your makeup. It’s appropriate for all skin types, including acne-prone, damaged, aging, or dry skin. I just can’t let you move on without sharing some key ingredients of this primer:
Non nano zinc oxide protects your skin against harmful UVA and UVB rays while protective oils like red raspberry oil shields you from free radicals.https://graydonskincare.com/collections/face/products/face-glow?variant=32907338436
Spirulina (otherwise known as blue green algae) is loaded with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that help combat free radicals and restore hydration to the skin. It’s loaded with anti-aging ingredients like Vitamin E and selenium and is known for reducing inflammation. The chlorophyll in spirulina also works wonders in reducing the visibility of dark circles and spots.
The phytonutrients in pumpkin seed oil contribute towards cellular rejuvenation which is especially helpful for those with aging or damaged skin that needs a little extra help.
Aren’t you glad you read that?! Why wouldn’t you want to put that on your face every day? Now that you know how great the ingredients are, we can get into the packaging and how Face Glow applies, feels and wears.
Face Glow comes in a shiny, black plastic cylinder with pale gold and white lettering. The pump is airless so contaminants are kept out and the primer lasts longer than it would if exposed to air. The full size is only a little larger than the palm of my hand and contains 30ml (1 fluid ounce), which is a pretty standard size for this type of product.
Since I use this primer every day, I wish there were a larger size available for purchase. I kind of live in fear of running out. (First world problems!) Obviously, I will repurchase Face Glow, but I don’t want to do it too soon. But I don’t want to do it too late, either…. Since it’s made from real (i.e. non-chemical) ingredients that will spoil if not used soon enough, I do understand selling a small amount to make sure it will be used up in time. There’s no concern that my Face Glow will spoil, though!
Using Graydon Face Glow
Push down on the pump and Face Glow comes out looking like a lighter, whipped version of your typical tinted mineral sunblock. It’s on the pink side and feels like a watery cream. It seems the shade doesn’t really matter unless maybe if you’re super fair or dark, though. I rub it in, and it blends right into my skin, leaving it looking like my skin but better, almost airbrushed.
It smells chocolatey and vanilla-y, and I enjoy that! I use about one pump for my entire face.
After I spread it all over my face using my fingertips, I pat it into the skin. This step feels intuitive, like it’s something that should be done to smooth over my pores, although it isn’t necessary. I spread it under my eyes, onto my eyelids, down my neck, and on my clavicle, too. In addition to the primer aspects, I put it on these body parts for sunblock and shimmer.
Face Glow looks so nice on my skin that I don’t even want to cover it. On no-makeup days, it adds a touch of color and a natural glow. I get compliments on how nice my skin looks!
When I do cover it, my makeup sits so much better than on the skin directly, and better than when I use some other primers, who shall remain nameless at this time. It’s easier to apply foundation – both the powder and liquid kinds – with Face Glow on underneath. They spread and blend better. The finish looks better, and it wears better all day, too.
Nothing ages you faster than sun damage, so I try to wear sunblock every day, even on cloudy days and days that I’m mostly inside (blue light from computer screens!). I aim to use only natural products, so my main interest in the Face Glow Tinted Primer was as a tinted sunblock, originally.
I haven’t tested Face Glow out as a full on sunblock so I can’t really speak to its effectiveness here. Although Graydon’s website explains that zinc oxide, one of Face Glow’s ingredients, provides UVA and UVB protection, there’s no information as to the SPF.
Evidently, Graydon has applied for SPF certification and should have it sometime this year (2019). Until then, I trust that Face Glow does provide some protection but can’t know for sure if it’s my forever sunblock. Fingers crossed, though, because the color blends perfectly into my skin with absolutely no white cast or funky shade, plus all the other reasons I laid out above that make this such a great product.*
*Side note: I will still use Face Glow Tinted Primer as a primer or tinted moisturizer even if the SPF isn’t enough for me.
It should be pretty clear to you by now that I love Graydon’s Face Glow Tinted Primer. I wear it every day; I will repurchase it; and I will benefit from this product for years to come. Face Glow feels good, smells good, applies nicely, looks great, has only clean, safe, nontoxic, and beneficial ingredients…
In my opinion, there are no negatives. That’s pretty unheard of because I’m a nit-picker, if there ever was one. (I can see my husband nodding vigorously.)
So, yeah, it’s a winner. Go get some. Period. And let me know what you think.
As always, thank you for reading my blog.
